Mike Kanarek: The Strenght Of A Curriculum

as I travel around the country to teach FIGHT seminars at various of my FIGHT programs , I can clearly see who teaches the system in a Free-Style method versus those who teach according to the curriculum.

I myself used to teach in a free-style method before HaganaH took a national spin due to my partner’s vision, Randy Proto. Up to then it was either what I “felt” like teaching that specific night/day, or it was what I thought would fit the students on the mat that specific night/day…while training might have been passionate, it was chaotic and students were often lost and relied 100% on my guidance from week to week to truly develop. In other words students were dependent of the Instructor.

A curriculum offers something totally diferrent to the students : Organization and Independence of learning!

It gives the student a map so to speak. It gives the students a “Inside” view into the system with a step by step building blocks method…the strenght of the FIGHT program lies in its curriculum structure as much as it relies on the material presented themself. The one that deserves credit on creating the FIGHT curriculm is Randy Proto. Back in early 2002 Randy said to me : “The biggest challenge will be to take what’s in your head and put it on papper!”  It took Weeks of writting, sketching, editing notes and more for Randy Proto to create what is now the FIGHT curriculum. During those weeks of me going over the techniques with Randy, that’s when we came up with the “Funneling” as a description of most of our techniques going to our Point Of Refference.  I like that description.

If I have one piece of advice to give to my FIGHT Instructors out there, it is : Stick To The Curriculum, its your best teaching tool in our system!

Happy Mother’s Day to all HaganaH moms

hope every one has a great weekend ;-)

Mike Kanarek: On your first defense… you must navigate yourself to start counter-attacking!!!

It is going to be a Great week here at the National Headquarters!

I am set to teach Counter-Attacks this week. Like if the attacker got through our FIGHT Street Scenario defense, in other words , its counters to counters!!!

I love this material, it’s very dynamic and well needed on the street, especially if you encountering a very determined attacker!!!

Let the good times roll……
